Last night was a very fun night.
I made a last minute decision to go see Ben Folds at Stubbs. Seriously. I called someone who was selling their ticket on Craigslist at 7 p.m. and the show started at 8 p.m. It turned out to be a great series of fortunate events. I really got into Folds’ music last year and literally played Way to Normal on repeat for about a month straight in my car. Needless to say, I was not disappointed last night. Folds’ played the show with no backing band. It was just him and his piano.
He ran through some of his hits (I think I teared up during “Hiroshima (B B B Benny Hit His Head)”. Love that song!) and even made up a song on the spot after someone yelled an incoherent sentence at Folds. He interpreted it as “you stole my clock, you bitch” and took it from there. It was pretty hilarious and the audience had a great time as he did the improv.
While I was at the show, I met up with my good friend, professor extraordinaire and fellow music lover Cindy Royal. She invited me to go see Quiet Company, a local band that was having their EP release that night, at Encore on Sixth and Red River. I’m glad I decided to go because that was a very fun show. I follow the band on Twitter, but still hadn’t gone to see them perform live. They will be playing again tonight at La Zona Rosa for the MUSIC FOR THE CITY album release. It’s a great organization I’ve had the pleasure of working with the past few months on some media relations projects.
Here are some photos from last night that I took with my iPhone, so they’re kind of blurry. I need to carry my point-and-shoot more often!
I am so insanely jealous! I love Ben Folds! I’ve been listening to him since around 95. I’m pammalamma on twitter, in case you’re wondering.
