Maira Garcia is a senior staff editor on the home page team at The New York Times. She is responsible for the presentation of breaking news, analysis and features for the the U.S. and International versions of nytimes.com.
Prior to The New York Times, Maira was the social media editor at the Austin American-Statesman, where she managed the newspaper’s social media accounts and developed strategies for social reporting and for audience growth. Before that, she worked at a news startup, a publishing company and as a contributor to MTV’s Choose or Lose election coverage.
Maira received a B.A. in print journalism and political science and an M.A. in mass communication from Texas State University-San Marcos.
When she’s not being geeky on the web, Maira hangs with her husband and two mini dachshunds, runs really long distances and explores Brooklyn, which she now calls home.
